Reading Results Expands Their Impact

Founded in 2000 by a volunteer group of professional educators, the success of Reading Results is found in  proven results in helping low-income students become stronger readers. Executive Director, Jennifer Samuels shares exciting data from the 2013/14 Report Card and thanks SVP for their 2010 investment.

Fourteen years ago when Margie Rosenthal and Diana Kerman first began to address the need for a reading intervention program in our schools, they could never have imagined the outpouring of support from foundations, businesses, schools, non-profit partners coming together to ensure our children get the help they need, to learn to read by the third grade.

In 2010, Reading Results was honored to become an investee of Social Venture Partners Portland, providing investment and resources to grow the organization while being mindful of scalability and sustainability.

In 2014, each of our students receives three 30-minute tutoring sessions each week, providing them with data-driven, explicit reading instruction delivered by highly trained, culturally responsive tutors.

Today, I’m happy to share our 2013/14 Report Card and to announce a 44% increase in the number of students we’ll serve this school year. We are proud of this growth, yet we know there are more than 4,000 first, second, and third grade struggling learners who need and deserve our program in Multnomah County alone.Reading Results is poised to expand our services to reach more students, in more schools, among low-income communities and for children of color, throughout our region.
