SVP Achieves Fundraising Goal for Latino Network’s Capital Campaign

An Update from SVP Partners Mark Holloway and Holly Levow

Twelve months ago, we set a goal to raise $750,000 from the SVP Partnership for Latino Network’s La Plaza Esperanza (Hope Plaza), the first true home for the Latino community in metro Portland. Latino Network has been one the longest-term Community Partners for SVP, having shown tremendous growth in their early childhood programs and expansion of their programs, staff and budget. We’re proud to announce that we’ve now exceeded $1 million raised for the campaign, Sonando Juntos (Dreaming Together)!!

It’s only made more exciting to reach the million dollar mark because we’re now officially able to name the preschool playground in memory of Sarah Cohen-Doherty, our dear SVP friend and colleague who died working tirelessly toward our community’s Preschool for All goal.

With increasing costs to build in the area right now, La Plaza’s price tag grew over the course of the year from $12 million to $18 million–a 50% increase. Still, Latino Network has made marked progress on their campaign, having now exceeded $14 million committed or pending toward the new goal. In addition to our families’ gifts to the campaign, we’re thankful to other Partners and allies, including:

  • Shannon Jones/SoHum Foundation

  • Dani Kerrigan/Raymond Foundation

  • Larry & Judy Fox

  • Jodi & Chris Hummer

  • Robert & Ann Tate

  • Kelley Family Foundation

  • And the SVP Partnership’s grant contribution

Latino Network continues pursuing grants from governments, foundations, and gifts from individuals to complete the campaign. While we’re “declaring victory” on our goal, we continue to be champions for the campaign and invite donors from the SVP community to be a part of this exciting and important effort. If you want to contribute or make a connection to someone who could, let us know! Learn more about the campaign and La Plaza Esperanza, and consider attending Latino Network’s annual Noche Bella on October 1st. We hope the SVP community shows up strong in support of their important work!
