Reframing Racism & More DEI Trainings to Come
During the first half of this year, we launched an initiative to engage Partner volunteers in a virtual Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) training called Reframing Racism through our partnership with the Center for Equity and Inclusion (CEI). To the Partners who completed it – thank you! We are so grateful for your commitment to expanding your learning.
To those who didn’t participate this time, or who were unable to finish the training for whatever reason – don’t worry! There will be more opportunities for you to engage in conversations about anti-racism and DEI. This experience has taught us that while some people love online learning or find it more accessible and convenient, for many of our Partners, this is not the most ideal format and they prefer the richness in dialogue of an in-person format. We plan on continuing to discuss these topics in many different ways, and in fact, are working to infuse an anti-racist lens more deeply in all we do.
Currently, DEI is woven into the Partner journey from onboarding onwards. Every new Partner is asked to attend a DEI for the SVP Community training, as well as a Nonprofit 101 training. And during the Partnership, there are ongoing opportunities for learning – didactic and experiential – that infuse an anti-racist lens.
Additionally, we’re renewing our partnership with the Center for Equity and Inclusion, and we’re planning to co-host a couple of events with them. These events will help inform our Partner journey and will provide opportunities for DEI reflection and continuous development.
We’re still working on creating these offerings, and welcome feedback about what format would work best for you! Keep your eyes peeled for updates as we move into this next phase of truly embodying an anti-racist culture at SVP Portland.
