Three Years of Collaboration at Peninsula Children's Learning Center

On June 21, SVP Partners and staff joined Peninsula Children's Learning Center (PCLC) Board and staff members to celebrate 3 years of successful collaboration. While enjoying a warm spring breeze on the preschool patio, we listened to updates from the PCLC team about outcomes of SVP's work with them. The outcomes were physical, strategic, and financial. PCLC Executive Director Ken Dale shared that they've put into practice many of the tactics our subject area experts suggested. For example, Cheryl Edmonds, Encore Fellows alumna and marketing expert, suggested changes to PCLC's public face that might help them increase revenue through increased enrollment. Turning her advice into action, PCLC remodeled their entryway to make it more "kid-friendly" and painted their school bus to catch eyes all over town. Partner Jason Gates was pleased to hear that his work on the strategic plan has been kept top-of-mind when Board members admitted that they pull out the plan at each Board meeting and check their work against it. And of course, Lead Partner Barbara Francis was praised for her patient and kind stewardship of the investment process throughout the years. Ken said that there were numerous times when he mentioned an issue they were having and received help or a connection from Barbara shortly thereafter.

The PCLC team sailed some rough water during their time as an SVP Investee but it's smooth sailing now. They've found new earned revenue streams through renting their classrooms and playgrounds on the weekend, secured new grant funding, and have a bright view of the future as they build their Board and staff. SVP wishes them Bon Voyage and remind them that once you're part of the SVP family, you never really leave.
