Business Partner Highlight: Katherine Fox

Katherine Fox is an Investment and Philanthropic Advisor at Arnerich Massena, an SVP Business Partner that empowers clients in both their investment and their philanthropic endeavors. As an investment advisor, Katherine develops client investment programs, manages client portfolios, and advises clients on all aspects of charitable giving. Katherine believes in the power of philanthropy and the profound change it can inspire, which is why she was eager to engage with SVP.

Q: What do you personally enjoy about being a Partner?

A: Arnerich Massena’s business partnership with SVP offers a unique opportunity for us to engage with the essential work our Community Partners are doing and learn from a diverse group of SVP Partners. SVP provides all Partners the opportunity to utilize their talent strengths and explore new areas of interest. While I have a family background in philanthropy and am actively engaged with helping individuals and families build plans for more strategic and impactful giving through my work, there is always more to learn. SVP supports this focus on growth and has encouraged me to try out new interests and roles, including working on the Portfolio Management Team.

Q: What do you like about your role on the Portfolio Management Team?

A: As a relatively new member, I am still learning the history of the team and how we work together to make decisions. The team is incredibly dedicated and conscientious about its decision-making process. I’ve enjoyed the “behind the scenes” look at SVP’s portfolio management and look forward to learning and growing with the team now that I have a better understanding of how things work.

Q: What is compelling about sharing SVP with others, particularly other young professionals?

A: SVP Portland has such a compelling story of community impact and I love sharing my experience as a Business Partner with those who may be interested. It’s particularly exciting to share SVP’s mission and work with young professionals. So often it can feel difficult to make an impact with just dollars when you’re earlier in your career. SVP’s venture philanthropy model is captivating to younger generations who also have time to invest and it offers unique opportunities for young professionals to get involved in mission-driven community work.

Q: How does being a Partner benefit you and your work at Arnerich Massena? What have you personally gained?

A: As an Investment & Philanthropic Advisor at Arnerich Massena, one of my primary responsibilities is helping our clients build plans for more focused and fulfilling philanthropy. Working alongside other SVP Partners to become more active and engaged philanthropists has been a huge help to this work. I also benefit from learning more about the amazing work SVP Partners are doing and being able to share that work with our clients. A large part of my job is helping integrate next-generation heirs into family philanthropy. For the same reasons that I love sharing SVP with young professionals, being a Business Partner has been helpful in this regard. Venture philanthropy, and SVP’s early childhood education focus specifically, is compelling to a younger audience and is a great way to encourage the next generations to join their parents or grandparents on a philanthropic journey.
