Holistic Support of Families at Hacienda CDC
“Our work with Social Venture Partners has truly been an essential part of maintaining Hacienda's healthy operations in the past year. SVP helps us identify quality improvements, connects us with rich resources and has been a solid, trusted partner as we explore areas for expansion of our services.”
-Jaclyn Sarna, Hacienda CDC COO
SVP Portland is proud to extend its partnership with Hacienda CDC into 2023 as they continue to expand their impact in our community. In 2022, Hacienda opened two new affordable housing developments – Rockwood Village in Gresham (224 units) and Las Adelitas in Cully (142 units). Las Flores, a third affordable housing development, is under construction in Oregon City and set to open in the summer of 2023 with 171 units. In addition to all this impressive expansion, Hacienda continues to provide youth and family services to their residents and community members. These programs include Portland Niños, Expresiones, and SUN Youth Advocacy. The addition of new housing developments allows the growth of these programs, as demonstrated by new space for the Portland Niños program in the Las Adelitas complex. Manuela, the owner of Loncheria Los Mayas in the Cully neighborhood, and her family are examples of those who have deeply felt the impact of Hacienda’s affordable housing and holistic programming.
In December, Hacienda officially opened three new learning centers, developed in partnership with Verizon, that remove barriers between low-income Portlanders and the tech resources they need to succeed in a digital world. These learning and innovation hubs are designed for all ages, with high-speed internet access, advanced technology, and educational and career programming. Additionally, the Portland Mercado, which houses 19 permanent businesses, and serves as an incubator for new businesses, celebrated its 7th anniversary.
In 2022, SVP’s focus was on supporting Hacienda through several leadership team transitions along with providing support with strategic planning, impact measure development, and board assessment. In December 2022, our Portfolio Management Team approved a reinvestment in Hacienda CDC with a $25,000 grant and Partner time. The focus in 2023 will be to develop impact measures for all major programs, assist in transition of the Board chair, revise their bylaws, and support an evaluation of early childhood facilities for both current and future properties.
We look forward to our ongoing partnership with Hacienda CDC as they continue to build new affordable housing while expanding much-needed services to support successful outcomes for the community they serve.
