In Pursuit of Freedom, Joy, and Belonging

As co-founder of our Business Partner Center for Equity and Inclusion (CEI), Hanif Fazal has developed and delivered innovative equity and inclusion programs that bring about real change. For more than 20 years, he has shared his insights across the education, philanthropic, public and nonprofit sectors. Now, he’s sharing his perspective in print.

An Other World: The Fight for Freedom, Joy and Belonging is a social commentary and memoir that offers a hopeful path forward for people of color by nurturing identity and centering community.

Hanif, who has deep ties to Black and Brown communities in the Northwest, believes his book, which details his own journey toward belonging as well as his efforts as a devoted father raising a Brown daughter, can serve as a catalyst for conversations about and within BIPOC communities.

You are invited to join Hanif for a book talk event to nurture community and spark conversations on September 14 from 12-4 PM in North Portland. There are affinity spaces for both BIPOC and white folks - separate from one another - in which each group can safely connect and engage in race, identity, and healing equity work. Learn more here.

If you want to read about what’s possible when you build a culture of belonging, you can preorder the book here.
