Embracing Equity: Carlo's Story
Carlo Delumpa is an SVP Partner, Board of Director, and he chairs our Equity Committee. He is a strong advocate of our work in advancing racial equity and capacity building, and has been an SVP Partner since 2012. Below is his "equity journey" story.
Proving and Improving Our Impact
We are effective at accelerating growth and building the capacity of nonprofits that we partner with. The results show that we are effective because of the following key elements:
Your Annual Partners Meeting
Thank you to everybody who attended the Annual Partners Meeting on October 19th. We really appreciate your dedication to our collective goal: ensuring that every child in Multnomah County is ready for kindergarten. It was an opportunity to mingle with Partners, Investee leaders, and community members to discuss collective impact, the state of early childhood education, and philanthropy.
Partner of the Month: Abby Hazlett
With Project Impact, Abby uses her analytical mind to conduct interviews with former and current Investees and pull out key findings and themes to identify the effect our capacity building model has on the people and organizations we work with. We are so inspired by the enthusiasm and commitment Abby brings to the table as a Partner, and as a philanthropist.
Pushing Forward with Latino Network
Because of the significant progress we’ve seen with our investment in Latino Network, we have decided to re-invest with them over a two-year period. This investment will total $80,000 and the volunteer talent that our brilliant Partnership provides.
Community Impact Spotlight: Metropolitan Family Service
Metropolitan Family Service (MFS) mission is to help people move beyond the limitations of poverty and inequity by delivering proven programs to help people succeed at home, at school, and in the community.
Partner of the Month: James Zuiches
We are humbled and in deep gratitude for Jim’s commitment to SVP, and proud to acknowledge him as Partner of the Month. He shows up as a learner and comes to every SVP experience with a critical mind and open heart. Jim is proof that with SVP, you get what you put into your experience.
Partner of the Month: Kerry McClenahan
As Kerry finishes a successful tour of duty on our Board, we must take the opportunity to honor her as Partner of the Month. We have half a mind to make her Partner of the Decade.
Partner of the Month: Noelle Studer-Spevak
Noelle Studer-Spevak is our Partner of the Month! Noelle has been a Partner for two years and recently received the Oregon PTA Advocate for Children Award.
Partner of the Month: David C. Smith
David brings confidence and depth of expertise to any project, while remaining humble and thoughtful. He pushes towards action and always follows through. It’s amazing how much he’s done during his time with the partnership.
SVP Makes Investment for Early Childhood Workforce Training
We’re incredibly pleased to announce our new partnership with the Early Childhood Funders Learning Circle (ECFLC) and their program, the Early Childhood Workforce Development Initiative. We’ve undertaken a 3-year investment of $75,000 ($25,000/year) in order to ensure that there are an adequate number of Master Trainers from communities of color, linguistically diverse communities, and rural Oregon.
Investee Spotlight: The Black Parent Initiative
With over 10 years experience serving the Black community, BPI intimately understands that the burden of racism is highly problematic for the betterment of the families in our community. In order to best improve the lives of Portland’s Black and multi-ethnic children, BPI provides services including parent coaching, parent training, and education.
